How is an acupuncture session?
The acupuncture session begins with...
a good chat!
Then I will observe the appearance of your tongue and I will take your pulse following the typical forms of assessment of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Finally you will lay on a massage table where I will apply fine needles to specific points on your body with relaxing music in the background.
Finally I will remove the needles. At the end of the session you can feel very relaxed.
How many sessions do I need for my problem?
Acupuncture stimulates the self-regulation of the body. For this reason, more sessions are necessary, so that the body directs its attention towards the affected areas.
The consistency of the sessions is the key.
The number of sessions varies depending on the imbalance to be treated and other factors such as age, general state of health, previous illnesses,
the body's response capacity and adherence to treatment.
However, at least 4-5 sessions are necessary. Then we will evaluate the response obtained and the eventual need for other sessions.
A treatment cycle usually consists of 5 to 10 sessions.
Sessions decrease as symptoms improve.
Generally - though always depends on the specific case -
acute pain with a sudden onset responds more quickly to treatment than chronic and persistent problems, which have been present for a longer time and tend to progress more slowly.
At the end of the treatment cycle, depending on the case, it is possible to specify maintenance sessions (1-2 per month).
Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture does not have to be painful. It is a very delicate and beneficial technique.
Sometimes you can feel a stimulation in the form of a cramp or a slight prick .
At the end of the session you will be able to have a tingling sensation in the stimulated points or areas. Don't worry, it's normal!
The sensation will disappear after a few hours.
How do I understand that the session has been effective?
Acupuncture is a gentle and holistic discipline: during one treatment cycle it is important to pay attention to signs of healing or changes, although minimal, that are experienced. For example:
-
changes in the pattern of sleep
-
changes in the digestion
-
changes in the stool or in the urine (color - frequency...)
-
changes in the mood or physical
Often you can experienced relief at the first session, while other times is experienced after several sessions. This depends on the person and their specific case.
Many times it can also happen that there is a worsening in the four days after the first session: Don't worry, it is the way in which the body adapts to new estimulación (Oscillating Reaction).
Once your body adjusts, you'll start to notice more positive changes.
